These Eyes
In 1970, The Guess Who, Canadian rock band, performed their hit “These Eyes” and took the world by storm with their contagious melodies and sweet, soft voices.
Released as a single in 1969 and re-released on the Wheatfield Soul album in April, the track hit #6 on the Billboard Pop Singles. “These Eyes” lyrics were inspired by the impatient waiting of a woman getting ready to go out, from band member Randy Bachman who was waiting for his girlfriend Denise to get ready one night. Randy wrote the iconic, timeless classic in just under 15 minutes- just in time for Denise to be on her way out the door.
Interesting Fact: Randy Bachman had the original piano chords with an original title of “These Arms.” Burton Cummings changed the title to “These Eyes” and added the middle eight.
Granted the meaning behind the lyrics makes them seem a bit dramatic from a woman’s perspective, however, men seem to be quite impatient when it comes to the customs and miracles women must perform in order to look their best going out. Regardless “These Eyes” became one of the greatest love songs of the era and of all time, hitting number 7 on the Billboard Hot too.

These eyes, cry every night for you
These arms, long to hold you again
The hurtings on me, yeah
I will never be free, no, my baby, no no
You gave a promise to me, yeah
And you broke it, and you broke it, oh no
These eyes watched you bring my world to an end
This heart could not accept and pretend
The hurtings on me, yeah
I will never be free, no, no, no
You took the vow with me, yeah
And you spoke it, and you spoke it, babe
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But they’re never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, cry every night for you
These arms, these arms long to hold you, hold you again
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
These eyes, are crying
These eyes have seen a lot of loves
But their never gonna see another one like I had with you
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Don’t ya know these…
