Slash Is Slaying It On This Cover!
This is a fitting tribute from one legendary guitarist to another. Jimi Hendrix slays all of his songs. When he gets up on stage, he doesn’t just play — he makes music come alive with his guitar. Whether it’s playing with his teeth or with his guitar on his back, he’s a showman. He always manages to leave the crowd breathless.
This song, “Hey Joe” was played by The Jimi Hendrix Experience for the first time during the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
In an early demo version, Hendrix is caught off guard by the sound of his voice in the headphones, and can be heard on the recording saying, “Oh, Goddamn!” Then telling Chas Chandler in the booth, “Hey, make the voice a little lower and the band a little louder.” Hendrix was always insecure about his vocal talents, but thought if Dylan could swing it, so could he.
Slash was hands down amazing. And playing with Mitch Mitchell, the famous drummer from Jimi’s band, just made it more nostalgic to fans. He would’ve made Jimi proud!
