Totally Sick Cover!
Love this roaring instrumental from Stevie Ray Vaughan! Everything about it is awesome — the beat, rhythm, and melody. This is why he has become such a huge influence to several other musicians like John Mayer and Kirk Hammett.
What made and still makes Vaughan and his music resonate with so many, players and laymen alike? The nut answer is this: typically great guitarists either pivot toward the intellectual/technical or the visceral/gut-level. Vaughan was among the rare masters who’ve combined both.
This particular song is definitely one of his most loved classics and my all-time favorite. There’s just something indescribable about the way he shreds and rips his guitar. There’s so much emotion and you can really feel it. He’s always had that perfect vibrato!
This song shows the influence Lonnie Mack had on Stevie Ray Vaughan, the fast chicken pickin’ style that Stevie picked up came from listening to the first record he ever owned: “Wham!” by Lonnie Mack.
I love this cover because it’s so fun to listen to. And though it’s not note for note, it’s definitely something that SRV would be proud of. This one’s awesome. Great tone too!
