Catch the mist, catch the myth

Rush is a band that you can’t really appreciate until you’re old enough to realize exactly how much talent lies within Alex Lifeson, Geddy Lee, and Neal Peart. The iconic ‘Tom Sawyer’ is a great example – the nearly 5 minute epic is widely regarded as Rush’s career defining song, relying heavily on drummer Neal Peart’s unique drumming style and vocalist Geddy Lee’s vocal synthesizer.

Not Even Rush Saw It Coming:

Geddy Lee said, “The one song that we have to play for the rest of our lives. When we wrote it, we had no idea that it would touch such a nerve with people. In many ways, it’s the quintessential Rush song.”

We’re not complaining, Geddy! As Rush embarks on what is likely their final tour, ‘Tom Sawyer’ is a song that’s sure to bring up a lot of positive, fond feelings about the band’s legacy for both the band and fans alike.

2002: The Year of Rush

In 2002, critics thought Rush was done after the deaths of drummer Neal Peart’s wife and daughter within a year of each other. ‘Tom Sawyer’ opened every show on their Vapor Trails tour to prove them wrong!
