It’s Been Almost Two Decades
This clip was taken from the double DVD Farewell 1 Tour: Live from Melbourne which was filmed on November 14, 15 and 17, 2004 at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia. It’s their first live video sans Don Felder, whom they fired in 2001, and the last live video of Glenn Frey who died in 2016.
Although it was called a Farewell Tour, it actually didn’t mean that they were going to retire afterwards. In fact, Frey said, “The longer this goes on, the better these songs sound. There is a ‘sort of’ honesty in calling the tour Farewell 1, with its implication that Farewell 2 will follow soon.”
“New Kid in Town” is a classic tune off their 1976 tour de force album “Hotel California.” Written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and J.D. Souther, Henley said that the song was “about the fleeting, fickle nature of love and romance. It’s also about the fleeting nature of fame, especially in the music business.”
It topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and was also a hit in several countries. There were rumors that it was about Bruce Springsteen but they already denied it. Check out the live version below and let us know what you think.
