Despite the fact that John Lennon and Paul McCartney repaired their decades-long friendship following their rift after the breakup of The Beatles, there was so much left to say! When John was tragically killed in 1980 at the age of 40, Paul was left with the weight of a million and one things to say and conversations he wished they’d had. In 1982, he shared with the world what that final conversation might have looked like with ‘Here Today’.

Talking To John

Written in 1982, ‘Here Today’ is the conversation that Paul never got to have with John. Of their relationship Paul shared, “I’m talking to John in my head. We were mates. God, that was so cool. It was the saving grace.”

This performance of ‘Here Today’ is amazing, emotional, and extremely powerful. It gives us a great glance into the depths of Paul’s heart – his guilt over having never said these things to John out loud, and the parts of him that know that John just somehow knew anyway without him having to actually say it. It’s an incredibly intimate performance by Paul, meant more for John than for us.
