I Feel Good In A Special Way!
“Good Day Sunshine” is a feel-good, happy hit from The Beatles’ seventh studio album “Revolver.” Mainly written by Paul McCartney, it’s most notable for its song construction. Another feature in the track is the imitative canon which can be heard during the closing part. And if you think there’s a harmonic resemblance with “Daydream” by the American rock band “The Lovin’ Spoonful”, you’re right. McCartney said this was one of his influences.
“It was really very much a nod to The Lovin’ Spoonful’s Daydream, the same traditional, almost trad-jazz feel. That was our favourite record of theirs. Good Day Sunshine was me trying to write something similar to Daydream. John and I wrote it together at Kenwood, but it was basically mine, and he helped me with it.” — Paul McCartney
The recording took over two days, the overdubs were added on the second day. This was also used as a wake-up music during some space shuttle missions. In fact, McCartney performed this song on November 13, 2005 live at the International Space Station!
Richie Unterberger of allmusic said the song “radiates optimism and good vibes” and Ian MacDonald said it is “superbly sung by McCartney and exquisitely produced by George Martin and his team” and that it shows the Beatles “at their effortless best.”
This song puts anyone in a good mood!
