Lynyrd Skynyrd is back on stage! The band recently played “Free Bird” at their first show after more than a year. Founding member and guitarist Gary Rossington, along with his bandmates, headlined the Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam in Panama City Beach, Florida. The festival also featured sets by Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan.
The Southern rock giants wrapped up their gig with “Free Bird” and it’s glorious. They performed it countless times but it never disappoints especially with that fiery guitar solo towards the end.
“We’re back, we’re playing shows, and we’re going to finish what the heck we started,” lead singer Johnny Van Zant said. “We miss the people singing the songs and having a good time, and that’s what Skynyrd is all about.”
Meanwhile, Lynyrd Skynyrd announced that they won’t be bidding farewell after all. They’re coming out of retirement and are more than ready to be back on the road. They’re set to embark on their “Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'” Tour. The trek kicks off on June 30 in Forest City, IA and wraps up on November 19 in Bossier City, LA. In a video the band posted, Gary Rossington explained that “Maybe it’s not our time to go.”
