Joan Jett released a cover of T. Rex’s “Jeepster” which will be featured on on AngelHeaded Hipster: The Songs of Marc Bolan and T. Rex, a compilation album out on September 4 via BMG.
The video was filmed at The Village Studios in Los Angeles and it also features Marc Ribot on guitar, Thomas “Doveman” Bartlett on piano, and Jim White on drums.
The two-disc, 26-track tribute was produced by Hal Willner who passed away in April following complications from COVID-19. Kesha’s Children of the Revolution, Devendra Banhart’s Scenescof, and Nick Cave’s Cosmic Dancer were previewed before. U2 and Elton John collaborated on Bang a Gong (Get It On) and other covers include Father John Misty’s Main Man, Todd Rundgren’s Plant Queen, Lucinda Williams’ Life’s A Gas, and Perry Farrell’s Rock On.
Speaking about Hal Willner, supervising producer Rachel Fox said: “Hal had a unique vision of Marc Bolan’s music, and working on AngelHeaded Hipster brought him great joy. Speaking for those closest to him, we will forever be heartbroken at the untimely loss of our beloved friend and irreplaceable creative engine. Hal, who referred to AngelHeaded Hipster as his White Album, was eager for everyone to hear these beautiful songs and to start thinking about Bolan and T. Rex again. This album is a testament to Hal’s spirit.”
