This Is Crazy!!

Jake E. Lee is undoubtably one of the most underrated guitarists in all of rock & roll. As the former guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne himself, he, despite his underrated status, is regarded as one of the most prolific and dynamic musicians that has ever taken the stage.

No matter where he’s playing, what he’s playing, or whom with, he’s always setting the bar higher and higher. He’s one of the best, pure and simple.

All of this you probably already knew, but here’s what you may not have known. He was actually, at one point, slated to to join an already popular rock band by replacing the guitarist. Any guesses who? Mötley damn Crüe, that’s who. According to him, he was approached by Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx at one point to actually replace Mick Mars, which is just crazy to think about. During a recent interview with Tone-Talk, Jake told the whole story. Here is what he said…

“I quit RATT. I had nothing going on. I was going to Mötley’s fucking gigs. Nikki and Tommy wanted me in the band. They actually wanted me to replace Mick — which you can understand that. I was fucking better looking and fucking better playing. They wanted me to replace Mick. Mick’s in-law or whatever was funding the band, so that didn’t happen. And there was talk of Mötley Crüe maybe having two guitar players, which even then, I was, like, ‘Mötley Crüe. Two guitar players. I don’t know about that.’ So, anyway, it kind of started with that. ‘Cause there was that thing going. Whether somebody denies it or not, that’s what started the rift between me and Mick.”

It was just yesterday that Jake debunked the story about Ozzy and Nikki snorting ants. He claims that it was actually a spider that he snorted. All of these Mötley Crüe stories coming out of the woodwork are truly conveniently timed considering the release of ‘The Dirt’.

It’ll be interesting to see if any member of Mötley Crüe responds.
