Eric Clapton’s “Old Love” Solo Is An Absolute Masterpiece

Eric Clapton showcases his talent and insane guitar skills in that mesmerizing solo! Wow, just wow! I just had to repeat it again and again. Even before he opens his mouth to sing, the solo alone is such a wonderful treat. I mean, I’m sure I’m not the only who had goosebumps!

That song was entitled “Old Love” which Clapton wrote along with American blues musician Robert Cray. What a brilliant collaboration! It appeared in his eleventh studio album Journeyman.

In 1988, after nine years of marriage to Pattie Boyd, Clapton divorced the model and photographer. This song documents the end of their relationship.

In fact, Boyd served as inspiration to several chart-topping hits including George Harrison’s “Something” and Clapton’s “Layla” and “Wonderful Tonight.” Those are timeless classics too!

Boyd told the Guardian newspaper December 13, 2008 that she was hurt that he should write a song about such a sensitive subject.

“The end of a relationship is a sad enough thing, but to then have Eric writing about it as well. It makes me more sad, I think, because I can’t answer back.”

That’s probably why Clapton plays this with so much emotion –  it’s hard not to tear up listening to it.
