Brian Johnson Praises Him For Keeping “Up That Level”
AC/DC has just dropped their new album “Power Up” and ahead of its release, they also streamed the official audio of the single “Realize”. Now in a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson praised rhythm guitarist Stevie Young for carrying on his uncle Malcolm Young’s tradition for their latest studio effort.
Johnson says, “You don’t want to step backwards, and I think Stevie’s contribution is the fact that he’s kept up that level. And Stevie, his part in it is to keep that level exactly where Angus [Young] and Malcolm always wanted it – you know, the best it could be. I think that’s it, really.”
Malcolm passed away in 2017 and Stevie has previously filled in for him on 1988’s Blow Up Your Video trek, 2014’s Rock or Bust album, and the world tour in support of Rock or Bust after Malcolm’s retirement.
Angus Young explains, “We probably always just strive together [to get] a good rock song. When you’re doing something and you’re creating something, it’s always good to go, ‘Is that what I think is AC/DC, those elements?’… I don’t think we evolve, we probably revolve as on a turntable!”
Johnson then adds, “It’s hard to talk about evolving when, really, you don’t want to get any better than what rock ‘n’ roll is.”
“Power Up” is already out. Meanwhile, check out “Realize” below.
