Just Call My Name, ‘Cause I’ll Hear You Scream!
“Master of Puppets” was released on July 2, 1986 and recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark at the Sweet Silence Studios. It’s the title track to their third studio album which received widespread critical acclaim. It’s one of Metallica’s most popular songs and is often included in their concert repertoire.
- Number 3 in VH1’s “Greatest Heavy Metal Song Ever”
- Number 22 in Q Magazine’s “100 Greatest Guitar Tracks”
- Number 51 on Guitar World’s “100 Greatest Guitar Solos”
“Master of Puppets” is also notable for its extensive use of downpicking and its long instrumental section, beginning at 3:34.
This was also a favorite of bass guitarist Cliff Burton and it’s their most played song OF ALL TIME! They first performed this live in front of 7,000 people at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium on December 31, 1985. That must have been an awesome way to end the year!
In this particular video, 8-year-old drumming sensation Avery Molek covers this chart-topping hit. And man, does he deliver! It’s incredible how much talent he has and it only makes you wonder what will happen in a few years — he could very well be a famous rock star!
Keep rockin’ Avery!
